    Get PDF
Purpose: The electric and electronic subject is one of the important subjects in vocational colleges. Admittedly, it is difficult to teach the concept of electrical flow based on the conventional method that relies on explanation using printed materials. The lack of technology-based materials has made it difficult for students to effectively learn such a concept. Against this background, this study was carried out to design, develop, and test a learning application based on Augmented Reality (AR) called RekBen Tube to help technical and vocational school students in learning the concept of electrical flow. Design: The methods used throughout the production of RekBen Tube application technology education learning tools are the ADDIE Model and the TAM Model. Findings: The actual image depiction of the electric current through the circuit is shown to clearly explain the movement of the electric current. Research limitations: This study has developed an application of 10 flip cards for scanning by RekBen Tube app to generate 3D images on each of the different picture cards. Practical implications: Much of the software used to produce this learning tool has been able to attract students to learn the basics of electricity. Paper type: Research Paper

Islam provides a beautiful way of life in maintaining proper socio-economy of the ummah through the implementation of zakat. In this paper, the zakat distribution by way of zakat for Asnafs’ Business is looked at from the efforts made by Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS). Various entrepreneurship programmes have been carried out by LZS and these activities are strengthened by the corroboration with the expert parties. Zakat distribution is able to help the Asnafs (beneficiaries) in surviving life so as to alleviate poverty from the Muslim society. This Islamic socio-economic justice will beautifully reach its circle when the successful Asnafs who received the Zakat for Asnafs’ Business are no longer in need of the zakat, and in turn contribute to the zakat for the other Asnafs who are still surviving

ACKNOWLEDGING INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL IN MALAYSIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES PERFORMANCE

    Get PDF
In today's knowledge-based economy, intellectual capital has emerged as a crucial component for boosting productivity and sustaining organizational performance. The intellectual capital approach has assumed a preeminent position in the higher education industry, where knowledge is the primary output and input. The majority of its valuable input consists of researchers, managers, and students who are acquainted with the university's procedures, rules, and regulations, as well as its network of relationships. Principal outputs include research results, publications, educated students, and productive stakeholder relationships. If universities are to continue providing high-quality services and ensure their long-term viability, these intellectual capital components must be properly identified and managed. Malaysian public universities were chosen as the sample for this investigation into how universities extract the value of their intangible assets. This study seeks to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between the intellectual capital of universities and their performance. IBM-SPSS analysis software was applied to the dataset of 56 respondents. The analysis demonstrates that intellectual capital significantly influences universities’ performance, especially on financial, internal process and learning growth performance perspectives. This study provides a deeper understanding of how universities measure their intellectual capital and the significance of its value in enhancing the performance of public universities. The indicators discovered in measuring intellectual capital are anticipated to become a model applicable to ASEAN public universities for managing and reporting intellectual capital and its significant influence on a university’s performance.   Keywords: Intellectual Capital; Public Universities; University Performance; Measuremen

Objective: This study explores how menopausal women perceived supports provided by their husbands. Methodology: Total of 13 menopausal women recruited using a combination of purposive and snowball techniques from two sources, tertiary hospital and local communities in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. The in-depth semi-structured interview guided was used to explore how they perceived supports provided by their husbands. The data were then analysed using a thematic analysis. Results: Five (5) themes have emerged which comprises of emotional, instrumental, appraisal, guidance, and sexual supports. One of which was a new theme (sexual intimacy support) that had not been existed previously in other literature reviews. Conclusion: Majority of menopausal women perceived the supports provided by their husband were negative, rather than positive supports that they had hoped. These findings suggest that an education program tool for husbands as a support person is much needed to ensure women walk through the menopause phase in a more meaningful life

Intellectual capital has emerged as an indispensable element for enhancing productivity and sustaining performance of organizations in this knowledge-based economy. In the healthcare industry, intellectual capital forms the basis for continuing innovation and subsequent performance. Hence, the management of hospitals needs sound intellectual capitalmanagement in order to ensure sustainability. Moreover, the activities of hospitals generally depend more on intangible resources such as clinical skills, knowledge, expertise, experiences, competencies, doctor-patient relation, doctors’ and hospital’s reputation rather than physical resources like physical assets. For this study, Malaysian private hospitals were selected as sample to investigate how hospitals extract the value of their intangible capital. This study aims at providing empirical evidence on the intellectual capital management practices in Malaysian private hospitals. Data was collected from a series of interviews with representatives from five private hospitals in Malaysia. Cross-case study analysis was carried out in analysing the data collected to develop patterns found in the evidence. The study reveals that the intellectualcapital management in hospital industry is quite unique especially in the human capital management and the relational capital management. For human capital management, clinical staffs’ competencies are crucial. Interestingly, the study found that physicians are often not the direct employees of the hospitals. This leads to a unique relationship between the hospital and the physicians. Meanwhile for the relational capital management, this study also reveals that the unique relationship that exists between the physicians and patients leads to the structural capital of the hospitals which may influence the hospitals’ reputations and good names

In vitro antiatherothrombotic effects of extracts from Berberis vulgaris L., Teucrium polium L., and Orthosiphon stamineus benth

    Get PDF
Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. The pathogenesis is mainly due to atherosclerosis, plaque rupture, and platelet thrombus formation. The main risk factors for coronary artery disease include obesity, hypercholesterolemia, smoking, diabetes, and high blood pressure. As a part of disease management, treatment options using anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs can be applied with addition to lipid-lowering medication. However, medicinal plants comprising antiatherothrombotic effects can be used as options to combat the disease rather than drug therapies with lesser adverse effects. Therefore, the haematological effect of Berberis vulgaris L., Teucrium polium L., and Orthosiphon stamineus Benth extracts was studied using in vitro model to prevent and to treat coronary atherothrombotic disease. The aqueous, methanol, and polysaccharide extracts of B. vulgaris, T. polium, and O. stamineus, respectively, were studied for their anticoagulant and antiplatelet effect on human whole blood. Extracts were subjected to the prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) test for anticoagulant activity. The antiplatelet activity was investigated using an electrical impedance method. B. vulgaris aqueous extract (BVAE), B. vulgaris polysaccharide extract (BVPE), T. polium aqueous extract (TPAE), and T. polium polysaccharide extract (TPPE) significantly prolonged the coagulation time in a concentration-dependent manner (p<0.05). The administration of BVAE demonstrated the most effective antiplatelet activity against platelet aggregation caused by arachidonic acid (AA) and collagen. These antiplatelet activities may correspond to the presence of higher total phenolic compound, which thus inhibit the platelet aggregation activity. In conclusion, these findings provide strong evidence on the antiatherothrombotic effect of BVAE and TPAE
